The Belfair bypass remains the highest highway priority between Bremerton and Shelton.
The final Bremerton Economic Development Study released Friday by the state Department of Transportation looks nearly identical to a 20-month-old-draft, with the long-awaited bypass on top. The $76 million project is in the midst of an environmental assessment, and got about $400,000 from the recently adjourned Legislature on top of an original $750,000 to complete the work. Jeff Sawyer, project manager with WSDOT’s environmental and hydraulic division, said it should be finished around June 2013.

Squaxin Island Tribe’s new Salish Cliffs Golf Club has become the first “Salmon-Safe”-certified golf course in the world
(SHELTON, Washington) – After successfully passing an exhaustive assessment verifying the Tribe’s commitment to protecting native habitat, managing water runoff, reducing pesticides, and advancing environmental practices throughout the region, the Olympic Peninsula’s newest golf course is the first Salmon-Safe certified course in the world.
The Salmon-Safe Golf Course Certification Program is an offshoot of the popular Northwest eco-label for agricultural and vineyard practices, administered in Washington by the Seattle-based non-profit Stewardship Partners. The program looks at site development practices to protect water quality, fish and wildlife habitat, and overall watershed health based on a detailed set of peer-reviewed guidelines.

Located in the Olympic National Park, the Sol Duc Hot Springs celebrates 100 years in operation.
The Sol Duc Hot Springs in the Olympic National Park celebrates its 100th year of operation.
The Sol Duc Hot Springs resort about 40 miles west of Port Angeles in the Olympic National Park, will commemorate the milestone with promotions and a special event planned at the hot springs May 5-6. The event will be hosted by Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort, the Olympic National Park Service and the Clallam County Historical Society and will include food, entertainment and a special look at the history of the hot springs.
